Asphalt Millings Calculator
Calculate the exact tonnage and cubic yardage of Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) needed for your driveway or parking lot. Automatically factors in heavy compaction shrinkage to prevent short-loads.

About this calculator
This Asphalt Millings Calculator translates volumetric driveway dimensions into exact orderable tonnage, specifically programmed to handle the extreme 20% void-space collapse associated with spreading recycled pavement.
The mathematical engine utilizes the following formulas to generate your RAP estimate:
Finished Volume (cu yds) = Coverage Area × (Finished Depth in inches ÷ 12) ÷ 27
Order Volume (cu yds) = Finished Volume × (1 + (Compaction Shrinkage % ÷ 100))
Total Order Weight (Tons) = Order Volume × Loose Density Factor (approx. 1.60 tons/yd)
A note on equipment: Spreading asphalt millings with a skid-steer bucket and driving a pickup truck over them will not achieve proper compaction. To trigger the binding properties and prevent loose tracking, you must rent a heavy vibratory steel-drum roller (minimum 3-ton rating) and roll the driveway while the material is hot from the sun.
