This line pipe calculator is built for pipeline procurement specialists, structural engineers, and fabricators. It translates dimensional pipe metrics into exact procurement weights and structural dead/operating loads.
The estimator utilizes strict geometric volume modeling rather than steel-only shortcuts:
Metal Cross-Sectional Area = π × [ (OD/2)² - (ID/2)² ]
Volume per Foot = Area × 12 inches
Weight per Foot = Volume × Material Density
Fluid Area = π × (ID/2)²
Fluid Weight = Fluid Area × 12 × 0.0361 lbs/in³
A note on manufacturing tolerances: In the real world, seamless and ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) line pipes are manufactured with allowable tolerances. API 5L allows pipe wall thickness to vary by up to -12.5% or +15% depending on the diameter and grade. The weight generated here is the "Theoretical Weight." Actual scale weight at the mill may vary slightly.
